Title:

Director of Design, aka Art Director

Reports to:

President + Director of Operations

Job Goal:

The Director of Design is responsible for the quality of the design work produced by the agency. In addition to personal production, the Design Director grows and mentors the design team, sets direction and standards for the team, and is responsible for the final product.

The Agency Work:

The agency has two types of clients:

Retainer-Based Clients have annual agreements including a variety of services such as strategy, branding, design, marketing, social and digital advertising. These clients are usually managed by an Account Manager. NBA serves as a strategic partner for many of our retainer-based clients.

Project-Based Clients come to us initially for single projects. These projects have a distinct beginning and ending. Ideally, at the end of the project, we can grow the relationship and begin to provide more services, turning them into longer-term retainer-based clients.

The design work we produce for our clients includes:

Branding Design
Marketing Collateral
Website Design
Social Design
Graphic Design

Job Responsibilities:

Grow and Mentor The Design Team
The Director of Design is responsible for growth and management of the design team, developing a team that collaborates with the strategy + account leads to produce work that is on point, on time and on budget.

Design Lead
As the lead designer, the Director of Design will perform the majority of design work. The Director should be adept at solving business problems through smart design that is aligned with the client’s core business goals + strategies.

Internal Processes and Agency Growth
The Design Director is part of the strategic management of the agency and participates in decisions that lead to company growth.

What You Have:

Strong, refined design talent

5-7 years of design experience in an agency setting

Strong strategic skills in the application of design to solve business problems

Proven ability to successfully manage projects within the creative field

Understanding of branding, graphic design, marketing, strategy, social media and digital advertising

Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite + Google Drive

A college degree in graphic design or a related field

Personal Habits and Traits:

A collaborative style

A high level of personal responsibility + organization

Self-motivated + always thinking about the next step

Ability to multitask, delegate, meet deadlines under pressure and work independently

Ability to communicate clearly + act
